Mishev, V. (2011).

During the course of this diploma thesis two separate measuring stations, the electro magnet current anisotropy measuring station and the tensile stress measuring station, were merged. The goal was to obtain information about the critical current I[tief c] of YBCO Coated Conductors as a function of the applied tensile stress at self field and inside a homogeneous external magnetic field. The rotation and magnetic field of the electro magnet were successfully calibrated and the controls were included in the Python framework of the tensile stress measuring station. A tool was developed for creating real time graphs during the measurements. Different physical effects such as the change of temperature due to the pressure change caused by the decreasing level of liquid nitrogen inside the Dewar flask and the changes of the applied force due to the different thermal expansion of the stress bar were measured. Two SuperPower samples were examined in order to prove the functionality of the measuring station. A slight continuous increase of the critical current was measured for both samples up to a certain stress [sigma][tief Ic][hoch max]Icmax =200 MPa. The irreversibility limit under tensile stress [sigma][tief irr] = 800 MPa was measured. A fit curve was successfully created and the values of its parameters were similar to those found in other publications. Furthermore, Young's modulus E = 172 GPa was measured and showed good agreement with values from literature. Using current anisotropy measurements made it possible to predict the existence of Y[tief 2]O[tief 3] precipitates, correlated to the ab-planes. Moreover, the apparent tilt of the ab-planes [Delta][phi] = 3.86 [Grad] was determined. The current anisotropy measurements in an external magnetic field gave indications that the tensile stress has a different effect on the pinning mechanisms for [my][tief 0]H[tief a] parallel ab and [my][tief 0]H[tief a] parallel c.<br />The functionality of the new measuring station was confirmed by the successful completion of the experiments.
