This master thesis is about the design of a high-rise apartment building in the 22nd district of Vienna called `Donaustadt-. The building site is at a markable point called `Knoten Kaisermühlen-. It is located at the joining of the `Donauufer Autobahn-, the `Donaustadtstraße- and the `Südosttangente-. Generally speaking the increasing shortage of apartments and lack of building space is a well known problem in Vienna. At the `Knoten Kaisermühlen- there is an appropriate sized building site which is an example of how space can be used wisely. Since the majority of high raised buildings has a bad ratio of floor space and circulation area (it leads to economic inefficiency), this design is trying to counteract this situation. Through shifting and alternating the different levels, we achieve an increased facade area as well as more open, well-lit spaces. The tower grows out of the landscape and has a height of 689 feet. The top of the building is scaled and twisted to reduce the wind exposure, forming an organic and very sculptural residential tower. Because of the skeletal construction it is possible to create flexible floor plans and to enlarge or to reduce the different apartments.
