Talstation Schafbergbahn : Entwurf zur Talstation der historischen Schafbergbahn in St. Wolfgang im Salzkammergut

Abstract

Diese Diplomarbeit befasst sich mit der Neugestaltung der Talstation der Schafbergbahn in der oberösterreichischen Gemeinde St. Wolfgang. Seit 1893 führt die Zahnradbahn vom Ufer des Wolfsgangsees auf den Gipfel des Schafbergs auf 1732 Höhenmeter. Die lange Historie, die außergewöhnliche Bedeutung des Ortes St. Wolfgang in der Kulturgeschichte des Salzkammergutes sowie der einzigartige Naturraum dieser Region bedingen einen sensiblen Umgang mit der Schafbergbahn und seiner gewachsenen architektonischen Struktur. Ausgehend von einer Analyse des Ortes sowie der bestehenden Bahn als bedeutendes Kulturgut entwickelt sich so ein Entwurfskonzept, das dem Neubau eine einzigartig zeichenhafte und zugleich in sich ruhende Erscheinung zukommen lässt und zudem die Bestandsgebäude in ihrer Wirkung emanzipiert. Die Masse und Schroffheit der Berge wird in die Formfindung aufgenommen und der Baukörper sanft in die vorhandene städtebauliche Situation und Topographie eingebettet. Funktional wird ein Konzept vorgeschlagen, dass durch eine mühelose Orientierung sowie klare und sichtbare Abläufe einen modernen Tourismusbetrieb ermöglicht.

This diploma thesis deals with the redesign of the station of the historic Schafbergbahn, which is located in St. Wolfgang, a community in Upper Austria. Since 1893 the cog railway goes from the shore of Lake Wolfgang to the summit of the mountain Schafberg at 1732 meters. The turbulent history, the extraordinary importance of the town of St. Wolfgang in the cultural history of the Salzkammergut and the unique natural characteristics of this region require a sensitive handling of the Schafbergbahn and its grown architectural structure. Based on an analysis of the location and the existing railway as an important cultural asset, a design concept is developed that gives the new building a uniquely symbolic and at the same time calm appearance and also emancipates the existing buildings in their effect. The ruggedness and edges of the mountains are included in the design and the structure is gently embedded in the existing urban situation and the given topography. Functionally, a concept is proposed that enables modern tourism through effortless orientation and clear and visible processes.
