Abstract:
In oil and gas production facilities often, water is used in secondary recovery methods. This leads to a large amount of water that must be handled. The main part of separating the water from the oil and gas phases is done in large settling vessels. These large units have different parameters which affect the separation efficiency. The other effects on the overall separation performance can be evaluated using sensitivity analysis on python models that represent this type of machinery.
The main focus of this study is to provide a framework for a better understanding of the separation of the gas phase and oil residuals from the water. A particular emphasis is placed on this aspect of the process, because the produced water is later re-used for injection in the underground rock formation for subsequent oil/gas recovery. A small part of the water is also stored in underground reservoirs, thus leading to direct contact with the environment and providing, therefore, the need for the highest possible water purity.
