Design With every piece of design we create, we have the possibility to shape the world into one that is more like the one we wish to live in. Good design addresses real problems. Instead of pleasing human wants, it carries the ability to respond to human needs. Design can convert utility into behavior in context, and even further “Design has the ability to enhance humanity” as Ilse Crawford says. However, we would also want to go beyond the human-centered scope and ask ourselves how we can design as being part of nature? How can we design with a responsibility to both the planet and the people? What role do biophilic design and the principles of biomimicry play within our building industry? In what kind of cities do we want to live in? And what kind of home do we want to design for humanity? What is it exactly that shapes our moral and aesthetic values? In order to achieve good design, we must engage with people at local and bioregional levels.
Female Founders Night is an invitation to ask ourselves - What is possible? Not only and especially for women, for men, or none of the above but for us humans. This question has different levels of approach. In the broadest sense, we want to ask: What does it mean to be human? What should our relationship with the living world be like? How can we put life, the planet, and everything it sustains at the center of our solution-finding processes? If we understand Entrepreneurship not as a lifestyle but as something the world really needs, we will be able to understand its attribute of interconnecting these spheres - the human, nature, and design.
This year‘s Female Founders Night is an attempt to take a holistic perspective on the
urgent crisis through the lens of Entrepreneurship. When we look at what is actually
happening in the world around us - with the terrible war of aggression in Ukraine, changes in the political landscape, a global pandemic, and the climate crises we can feel a sense of doom. However, what we think is important for us to recognize is that actually, it is the actions that each of us takes each day that are generating a promising future.
Entrepreneurs by their nature are agents of change. In this way, as a „tool“ entrepreneurship offers one of many possibilities to implement this urgent systematic change in its smallest format. We invite inspiring female change-makers who are already taking action to share their stories, insights, and experience. With the future being something that is co-created right now in our choices, in our thoughts, and our interactions, we, together with the audience, want to challenge the status quo, ask provoking questions and discuss aspirations and hopes. We want you to take part in what is possible.
