Abstract:
Abstract The aim of this thesis is to examine different business models currently used in the telecommunication industry, and to find innovative opportunities which can be used by alternative telecom providers in the current business environment. Alternative Telecoms are companies which do not own a licensed spectrum and generally without their own networking infrastructure. Instead they resell telecom services and products under their brand name, using regular telecom operator's network with which they can operate more effectively, provide competitive cost efficient services and bring added value and business results. For those reasons the author decided to explore further applications and suitable business models, with the aim of finding sustainable business development opportunities in this area. This thesis first reviews business models theory - How business models are used in the telecommunication industry in recent years, present innovation methodologies and overview on trends and effectiveness. In the second part the author looks at a particular example of mobile virtual telecom / wholesale provider, analyses and develops a business model to provide effective value add services. Finally, the test results are reviewed together with statistics for traditional models. In conclusion, the thesis shows a base and opportunity for business model innovation and its business effectiveness, projected results and operational model which can be implemented and leveraged in the current telecommunication industry.
