Abstract:
Up to now one major advantage of traditional television compared to online video is simply that watching TV is still easier than doing nothing. The online video market has still a discovery and a user experience problem. If people today want more information on a certain topic they google it and search the internet for deeper insights. With increased bandwidth worldwide, the accessed information is no longer limited to texts and articles. Online videos and clips became more important and usage numbers are constantly increasing. Due to cheaper production and distribution costs people are flooded with content and even search engines and the social web cannot solve this. It needs new tools that will help to save people one very important asset: time. The online video business is also confronted with other challenges: 1) fragmented markets make it difficult to access a worldwide audience (territory restrictions) 2) the "codec war" slows down the business 3) copyright infringement 4) willingness to pay etc. The service described in this business plan combines the ease of use of the TV usability with the technical possibilities of the digital era and offers a brand new and interactive user experience within the niche genre documentary film.
