Abstract:
Implementation of the energy management system in the manufacturing industry is challenging and yet of essence considering projected increase in energy demand and environmental impacts. The challenge of energy management implementation in the manufacturing industry focuses on realization of more reliable and cost-effective production stimulated by the advancement of the nanotechnology applications.<br />The assessment standards of quality, energy and nanometrology frame the mechanisms providing guidance to fulfill the key performance indicators to overcome these challenges. Many countries already adopted the energy management systems as a part of their national standards or specifications with voluntary agreements have proven to benefit from energy and cost savings with environmentally sound operations.<br />This work proposes a new and feasible energy management model for the advanced manufacturing industry by integrating:<br />- the micro/nanometric scale high precision measurement methods - the computer vision - the decision making using fuzzy logic into a particular machining industry. The energy consumption is the key performance indicator to evaluate the proposed model in the industry in compliance with the international standards.<br />The conclusion indicates that the energy consumption is reduced by integrating the energy management model in the industry that benefits from nanotechnology. The model implementation requires an interdisciplinary expertise and cooperation including the high precision metrology laboratories to assess the nanometrological materials under controlled conditions. The further development is achievable by planning the mid and long term targets using the systematic approach developed throughout this work.
