Laska, M. (2011).
Due to the rise of world-wide energy consumption and the growing CO2 concentration caused by the combustion of fossil fuels, worldwide and especially European endeavours aim at expanding the share of renewable energy sources that are available without limitation. Another approach is to raise awareness to counter advancing climate change and scarcity of resources in the field of fossil fuels. The new technologies that are so urgently needed for an energy revolution are already waiting in the starting blocks, first of all the thermal solar panel that is already at the threshold of being a highly advanced and industrially manufactured mass product. The central question of this work deals with the industrialization of the solar heat industry by the example of two European key players in this field - Austria and Spain. It will be demonstrated how the industry has developed in the past few years, showing also which degree of automation/standardization it has already reached, and how production technologies of glazed solar panels with a selective absorbing layer have changed from individual manual work to standardized and industrialized operation. Apart from profitability analyses in Austria and Spain a detailed comparison of different industrial manufacturing plants will corroborate the results. Moreover, the current situation in terms of economy and energy policy of the two countries will be measured and compared.
