The Proton Synchrotron (PS) is the oldest yet the most versatile particle accelerator operating at CERN and is today part of the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) injector chain. Around 2020 the LHC will be subject to an upgrade to significantly increase the number of collisions at the interaction points and the LHC injectors need to be improved as well in order to provide the demanded beam characteristics. Within this thesis the non-linearities within the magnetic field and the arising betatron resonances are studied. Detailed understanding of these effects is necessary, as the beam parameters have to be preserved along the injector chain to provide high luminosity, and ,therefore, a high number of collisions to the experiments situated at the interaction points of the LHC.
