Hofbauer, G. (2020).

The topic of the following master thesis is a barn in Steinhausen, which is located in canton Zug. This barn went through a lot of constructive adaptions due to the changing requirements of agriculture. The resulting structural diversity makes this building a representative example of agricultural buildings in this area. Dendrochronological studies show that the age of some constructive elements of the barn can be dated to the year 1711. The barn is part of the “Zur Linde” tavern. The barn and this associated house, form a typical ensemble that characterizes the townscape of Steinhausen. The originally rural village developed between the sixties and eighties due to rapid population growth and the resulting construction boom into a densely populated suburb of the city of Zug. In the following years between 2021 and 2022, a new residential area will be built on the barn property, in which the barn will play an important role. The building is to be structurally adapted for a gastronomy and event location. In the first third of this thesis, the historical influencing factors of such an agricultural building in the canton of Zug are explained. In the second third, the barn is analysed and documented from a historical preservation point of view. The conclusion of the work is a draft of the structural adaptation mentioned above.
