dc.description.abstract
Vukovar is a city on the east side of Croatia where the river Vuka flows into the Danube which forms the border to Serbia. Because of its location, the city became totally destructed during the Yugoslavian War 1991-1995. Today, 27 years later, there are still a lot of ruins in the city. So the watertower too.In the course of this masterthesis, the watertower in Vukovar is going to be opened for the public for the first time since the war. It will be restaurated all over and will become new functions. On the surrounding terrain there will be set up a new open-air theater, a playground and a connection to the Danube. The tower is a monument conservation and has to be protected in its appearance. About 100 surveys, which were done with the inhabitants of the city, show the importance and the meaning of the wa-tertower to them. It siginificates the resistance, the hope and the invincibility of thecity and the courage, the sacrifice and the strength of its inhabitants. That is the reason why the Tower has to be protected in its external appearance. with all its damages, just to recall what people there have gone through and what they were able to survive.
