In the present work a simulation model of a designed production system is being developed, in order to analyse its system behaviour in a dynamic environment and to derive various optimisation possibilities. In this context, improvements regarding lead time, inventory, throughput and capacity are executed. In the first part of this thesis a comprehensive literature review with focus on the assigned research field of factory planning is carried out. After the fundamentals as well as essential interrelations are presented, the application of simulation within the factory planning process is discussed. Further, existing approaches from literature and relevant practical examples will be presented and analysed in order to underline the relevance of simulation in industrial production. In the practical part, the simulation model will first be developed gradually. Regarding this, the model is created conceptually, then transferred into a formal model and finally implemented in the simulation software Tecnomatix Plant Simulation. After an in-depth verification and validation of the model, it is evaluated in experiments using the methodology of dynamic simulation. In this regard, the model is being optimised in iterative adaption steps. The result is a preferred variant of the considered production system, which meets the defined requirements according to the present objective. The conclusion of the thesis contains a summary of the results as well as a discussion of essential findings of the applied scientific methods. Finally, possible further development is pointed out.
