The complex was built between 1903 and 1906 according to plansfrom the City Architect A. B. McDonald in a Scottish renaissance styleand was used as the main police station and Glasgow District Court. The building was listed “B” by the historic environment Scotland onthe 4th of September 1989, with a statement of special interest regardingthe sculptural elements of the facade made out of red sandstone.Between 2007 and 2008 the complex also hosted the Glasgow Police Museum. In November 2008 the building was finally closed after over100 years of use and is not used ever since. Due to being vacant, some damage occurred, especially on the inside of the building and as a result the complex is not useable anymore. As the city had no further use, they sold the Former Central Police Office to the private investor David Somerville in 2014.The main goal of the thesis is to evaluate the current state of the former central police office and to analyze the historical context. Based on that, a revitalization concept, which preserves the building in an appropriate way, should be developed.
