Neuinterpretation der Markthalle als Entwurf am ehemaligen Wiener Nordbahnhof

Abstract

Am ehemaligen Nordbahnhof im 2. Bezirk wird eine neue Markthalle entstehen. Auf diesem Entwicklungsgebiet ist gleichfalls ein neues Stadtviertel geplant, das überwiegend mit Wohnungen, Geschäfte und Büros vorgesehen ist. Im Herzen des neuen Quartiers wird die neue Halle mit ihrer multifunktionelleren Nutzung und kulturellem Angebot zum einen wichtigen Merkmal der Stadt. Gleichzeitig wird sie als einen Ort der Begegnung und Austausch zwischen den Menschen betrachtet. Die architektonische Sprache der Halle greift auf die Geschichte zurück und wird neu interpretiert. Neben ihrer primären Marktfunktion umfasst die Halle zusätzliche Funktionen, die ein Ganzes bilden und dazu beitragen, jedem Besucher ein völlig neues Erlebnis zu bieten. Kultur, Kunst, Gastronomie und Frischmarkt sind hier unter einem Dach gebracht. Außerdem haben die Bewohner und Anrainer die Möglichkeit sich in dem integrierten Stadtteilzentrum zu treffen, um wichtige Fragen und Anliegen zu besprechen. Daneben wird auch Platz für Ateliers und Werkstätte für die Handwerker und Künstler geben, die dort arbeiten möchten. Die neue Markthalle schafft bewusst ein harmonisches Ensemble mit dem ehemaligen Wasserturm, der nun neu aktiviert wird und eine neue Funktion als Wassermuseum bekommt. Hier entsteht eine neue angenehme urbane Situation, mit Zonen zur Erholung und Verweilen, die als Übergang zwischen der Stadt und dem neuen Park wahrgenommen wird. Die Halle liegt sehr einladend als Tor zum Park und dank der guten Lage und unmittelbarer Nähe zum Prater, Augarten und der Innenstadt ist sie für alle leicht erreichbar. Durch die filigrane Holzbaukonstruktion und grüne Dachgärten wirkt die Halle sehr attraktiv und gut in der Umgebung zu passen.Veranstaltungen, Konzerte, Ausstellungen, Festivals und Sommerkino sind nur ein Teil der Aktivitäten, die vor Ort stattfinden werden. Somit wird das ganze Nordbahnhofareal aufgewertet und ein neues Gesicht bekommen.

On the historic grounds of the former Vienna north station in the 2. District a new market hall will be build. In this city development area, a new urban Quarter is also planned. It will consist primarily of apartment buildings, shops and offices. Situated in the heart of the new neighborhood the new hall with its multifunctional use and cultural offer will become an important feature of the city. At the same time, it will be serve as a place of encounter and interaction between people. The architectural style of the new market hall reflects the history, but at the same time will be newly interpreted to adapt to the modern needs of the community.Beside its primary market function, the hall is also encompassed by additional functions, which altogether form a whole and contribute to offer a completely new experience to every visitor. Culture, art, restaurants and a fresh market are combined here in one building. Furthermore, locals are encouraged to meet and discuss important questions and concerns in the new integrated district center. Work spaces for artists and craftsmen, who wish to work there, has also been thought of.The market hall will create consciously a harmonious ensemble with the former water tower, which is to be reactivated and given a new function as a water museum. This new urban space will act as a transition between the city and the new park with defined zones for relaxation and recreation. The positioning of the market hall is indeed very inviting and in this sense could be perceived as a gateway to the park. The good location and close proximity to Prater, Augarten and the city center make the market hall very easy to reach. Due to its subtle timber construction and roof gardens the building looks very attractive and fits well with its surroundings.Events, concerts, exhibitions, festivals and summer cinema are just a part of the activities, which are planned to take place in and around the building. Therefore, the entire newly developed district will become more lively, increase its value and be given a new urban face.
