Ex Macello Lugano- ein neues Stadtquartier in Lugano

Abstract

Meine Arbeit konzentriert sich auf die Sanierung eines städtischen Leerraums im Herzen der Stadt Lugano.Das betroffene Gebiet liegt entlang des Flusses Cassarate, welcher einst die östliche Grenze der Stadt darstellte. Das Ex Macello wurde Ende des 19. Jahrhunderts in einem Areal gebaut, welches ursprünglich am Rande von Lugano lag, aber infolge der Entwicklung der Stadt in den letzten 100 Jahren wurde dieses Gebiet Teil des Stadtgefüges. Aus diesem Grund wurde es im Jahr 1993 geschlossen und hatte von diesem Zeitpunkt an keine klare Funktion mehr. Seit seiner Schließung bis heute wird es teilweise als Sozialzentrum der “CSOA Molino” und als Lager des Rathauses genutzt. Angesichts der Verschlechterung der Struktur hat die Stadt Lugano nach verschiedenen Studien am 11. Oktober 2019 den Wettbewerb für die Sanierung des ehemaligen Schlachthofs eröffnet. Es geht also darum, dieses Gebiet sowohl in architektonischer als auch in sozialer Hinsicht optimal zu sanieren und aufzuwerten, wobei die Erhaltung eines Kulturgutes im Auge behalten werden muss.

My work focuses on the redevelopment of an urban void in the heart of the city of Lugano. The affected area is located along the Cassarate River, which once represented the eastern boundary of the city.The Ex Macello was built at the end of the 19th century in an area that was originally on the outskirts of Lugano, but as a result of the development of the city in the last 100 years, this area became part of the urban fabric. For this reason it was closed in 1993 and from then on it had no clear function. Since its closure until today, it has been partially used as a social center of the “CSOA Molino” and as a warehouse of the City Hall. In view of the deterioration of the structure, the City of Lugano, after various studies, has opened on October 11, 2019 the competition for the redevelopment of the former slaughterhouse. It is therefore a question of optimally redeveloping and enhancing this area, bothfrom an architectural and social point of view, keeping in mind the preservation of a cultural asset.
