Bohl, H. (2021).

In the construction industry, the demands on materials are becoming higher and higher with time. Thus, in the field of materials technology, research continues uninterruptedly and new technologies are developed. It is now possible to produce ultra high performance concrete (UHPC) with compressive strengths of over 150N/mm2. Since the requirements for this building material are so high, the composition and production of the concrete are also very important. In production, the focus is particularly on dry mixing with high-performance mixers. This is precisely why ultra-high-strength concrete is not yet widely used, as these are not in use on construction sites and therefore the concrete cannot be produced on site. The aim is therefore to produce a premix of the solids that can be ready-mixed on the construction sites using conventional mixers with the addition of the liquid components. For this purpose, the influence of the dry mixing time on the deagglomeration of the silica fume in UHPC is investigated in order to produce a premix that is as well prepared as possible. This paper therefore deals with the evaluation of final papers dealing with the evaluation of fresh and hardened concrete properties, rheological properties, stabilization time and packing density as a function of dry mixing time. These data were published independently in a total of seven individual papers. Therefore, in the first step, all data were collected and evaluated coherently.Improvements in fresh concrete properties and rheological properties were found, the latter being more pronounced. Regarding the hardened concrete properties, on the other hand, no clear improvement was observed. The stabilization times of the wet mixes, i.e. the time required for the mix to reach sufficient homogenization, could also be significantly reduced with longer dry mix durations. Regarding the packing density, no visible improvement could be observed. Although this increased continuously with the dry mixes, it remained constant with the wet mixes.During my own series of tests, the funnel run-out time, the spreading factor, the viscosity, dynamic yield point, stabilization time, particle size distribution and packing density were again determined.Since the first series of tests did not have the desired consistency and fresh concrete properties, the content of consistency maintainer and superplasticizer was increased for the second series of tests. After that, the results coincided with the previously evaluated test series. Only the particle size distribution showed a consistently similar proportion of silica fume within the limits of measurement accuracy. Thus, it can be said that a longer dry mixing time represents an improvement in the workability of UHPC, but a better deagglomeration of the silica fume could not be directly determined.
