Abstract:
The objective of this thesis is to propose a redesign of TISS, the student information system used at Vienna University of Technology. A literature review covers redesign methods where the design is based on an existing design, as a contrary to design methods where a design is created from scratch. After analysing various successful and unsuccessful redesign projects, common patterns are identified that might count as success factors. To inform a redesign of TISS, multiple student information systems that are in place at other universities are analysed in detail. In addition, a comparative expert workshop has been run to further evaluate the mentioned existing systems. In the last chapter, all gathered knowledge is put into practice by informing a redesign of TISS, that has been qualitatively evaluated with students enrolled at Vienna University of Technology. Although not all flaws have been managed to be tackled in the first redesign iteration, the redesign project was successful, since the participants generally preferred the redesign over the existing version of TISS.
