This thesis is a conceptual draft for the new building of a shoppingcenter, with an overlying living area in the 7th district of Vienna. The construction site is located directly opposite the Westbahnhof, which includes a lot of advantages as well as disadvantages (good connection to public transport/ high traffic). The focus in this design is on the mix between the public and the private spaces. The private rooms which are used as living areas and the shopping center as public spaces, that extends over the entire ground floor. It's result is a balanced mix of the residents and "stop-and-go" strollers which leads to an urban lifestyle. Additional to the private and public space will be the distinguished outdoor area which offers the connection between these counterparts. The urban space promotes collaboration, communication and offers a place for recuperation after a stressful workday. The facade of the shopping center is part of the green space concept and accommodates several plants and a wide biodiversity. Through the use of sustainable materials and the creation of suffucient green space, the design offers a climate-friendly presentation and acts as a counterpoint to the adjacent outbuildings.
