Gologan, C. (2021). Bahnhof als Landschaft : Neubau Nordbahnhof Bukarest : new construction Bucharest North railway station [Diploma Thesis, Technische Universität Wien]. reposiTUm. https://doi.org/10.34726/hss.2021.72893

With around 10,000 passengers and almost 200 trains a day, the North Railway Station in Bucharest is one of the most important transport hubs in Romania. Both domestic and international trains that connect Romania with major European cities stop here. From 2020, the station also connects the city center with Bucharest’s Henri Coanda Airport, with the travel time between the two stations being around 20 minutes. The goals of the Trans-European Transport Networks, which the North Rail Station is also a part of, include, among other things, connecting all airports and seaports to the rail network as well as establishing trains as the main means of transportation for medium and long distance travel by 2050.Although statistics show that tourism has increased in Bucharest, as well as in Romania, over the past years, the North Railway Station has not been renovated, modernized or expanded in recent years. The purpose of this master thesis is to design a new train station that would serve both passengers and Bucharest’s residents. Thus, the building developed here is not only to be used as a train station, but the goal of its design would be to also create a meeting point and recreational space for the city’s residents.
