dc.description.abstract

dc.description.abstract
In the last century, trends in city planning and mobility patterns have changed fundamentally, especially in Austria. Therefore, the following thesis not only deals with the development of settlement structures but also with their inherently associated transport planning and consequences using the cities Bregenz, Korneuburg, Mödling, Wels, and Wr. Neustadt as examples. For this purpose, the basics of spatial planning were taken up and characteristics of the ideal settlement under consideration of sustainability were elaborated. The aim was toexplain the relation of settlement to mobility and what indicators are available to demonstratetheir efficiency. Subsequently, the historical developments in spatial and transport planning were examinedand their consequences pointed out. Both the planning process itself and the underlying legalbasis were discussed. In a next step, the previously mentioned parameters and planningfoundation were evaluated on the basis of five selected cities in order to find out whether andhow a destruction was visible in the cities. It is shown that the planning since the last centuryhas developed in favour of cars, creating a structure that is no longer useful to pedestrians.
