Espinosa Ortega, G. (2007). Feasibility study for a new bridge construction method [Master Thesis, Technische Universität Wien]. reposiTUm. http://hdl.handle.net/20.500.12708/179442
A new bridge construction method, the balanced bridge method, is the analogous of the arches' lowering construction method, but applied to bridges that normally are built with the incremental launching method or the balanced cantilever method. The range of the span length for its application lies between 50m and 250m. The production of the girders is more efficient with it than with the traditional methods already mentioned. Two different types of this new construction method can be applied, construction with two compression struts or construction with tension cables. The first one is analyzed and developed in the present thesis. The design problems are tackled, the sections and dimensions, as well as the constructive details of the joints are solved to demonstrate the applicability and the viability of this method in practice.<br />In order to get a real dimension of the design and its problems and also to compare the results with a real case, the construction method was applied to the Lavant viaduct and compared with the existing construction. The results show the high cost-efficiency of the new method and the considerable savings that are possible with its application.
