"Services Computing" is more than just a technical direction in IT - it is an emerging interdisciplinary science and engineering subject that tries to overcome the gap between business and application services on the one and IT services on the other hand. The point of view at Services Computing should be a strategic one - Service-Oriented Computing as a technology fraction that includes services consulting methodologies, services design and delivery as well as services maintenance and management.
In today's world there exists no other branch of industry that claims to keep track of changes to this extent like the IT industry. New developments, technologies, innovations and last but not least the daily growing amount of data lead to the fact that for IT each day means to overcome views of yesterday - if once not self-propelling then IT is pushed forward by business demands.
Environmental considerations are not new. In recent years scientists report on global warming, fast increasing carbon dioxide output and strong raising prices for energy. Together with environmental activists and media they have touched the global conscience and clarified that protecting nature is one of the big challenges to cope in the next years. It will not be just a task to check off - long lasting environmental protection means to change traditional attitudes and find innovative, occasionally revolutionary solutions to guarantee prosperity in a healthy nature.
Companies in all branches of industry, consumers and even the ordinary Joe have evolving interest on ways of saving energy and hence cost. The reasons for this just might be taxes or higher prices, but it is the interest that is needed to change things. The mission is to find and follow the roadmap to the Green IT supporting a healthy natural environment.
