The University for Art and Industrial Design The chosen site at a prominent and central location of Linz lies at the busy Eferdinger Autoroute and the Upper Danube Road. Originally the site was intended to accommodate a new music theatre; this plan was, however, abandoned due to political quarrel and the entailing (negative) referendum in November 2000. The new music theatre is currently under construction at Blumauer Square right next to Volksgarten. Prior to the referendum the city of Linz and the state of Upper Austria had already acquired several real properties required for the construction of the music theatre which are now lying idle and could now be used for other projects.
The fourth Danube bridge, a project long planned is to bring a substantial slowdown of traffic in this area. Further, the city of Linz already held a competition for a pedestrian's bridge between the old towns of Linz and Urfahr. This would lead to integration of the ARS Electronica Center and subsequently of the Lentos Art Museum.
Based on the above, I contemplated possibilities of a subsequent use of the real properties at the bank of the Danube.
The final project the University for Art and Industrial Design merges the current university, which is distributed across three inner-city locations.
It should be the aim to merge the campuses thereby creating a homogenous appearance of the university.
