Abstract:
Renewable energy generation systems gained international popularity in the lastdecade, due to the increasing demand for energy. On top the pressing climatechange issue and the related urgency and awareness for the need of clean energyproduction systems further enhanced the requirement. The Paris Agreement, which was signed in 2015 by 196 countries, set a common ground for theimplementation of new energy policy strategies and led to a renaissance of RES-Ewithin a broad international community (UNFCCC, 2016).The main question, which has to be answered in the context of renewable energypromotion, is related to acceptance and efficiency of different policy instruments. This paper is taking a closer look on quantity-driven bidding and tender systems, which were often neglected in policy discussions and literature, but recentlyexperienced popularity. This is demonstrated by technology reviews of renewableenergy auctions worldwide. The theory is then illustrated with selected countryanalyses to derive lessons and policy implications at the global level.
