Stadt Land Campus. Errichtung eines Stadtcampus für Bildung, Kultur und die Öffentlichkeit am Wiener Karlsplatz

Abstract

Wien ist mit seiner Vielfalt an innerstädtischen Hochschuleinrichtungen ein ideales Aktionsfeld, um sich mit der Idee von Stadtraum als Campus auseinanderzusetzen und den Synergiebestrebungen, in kultureller und sozialer Hinsicht, eine architektonische Hülle im Campus Kontext zu bieten. Die vorliegende Arbeit befasst sich einleitend mit dem Begriff Campus im Allgemeinen und bietet in weiterer Folge einen Überblick über die reiche Wiener Hochschullandschaft. Basierend auf dieser Grundlage, wird ein Entwurf am Wiener Karlsplatz entwickelt, der die Verflechtung von bestehenden Hochschuleinrichtungen und dem öffentlichen Stadtraum programmatisch und formal in Angriff nehmen soll. Die architektonische Lösung befasst sich im Anschluss mit den Themen Raum für Synergien zwischen Bildung und Öffentlichkeit, Stadtlandschaft und den Bedürfnissen von Studierenden für mehr Flächen des Austausches. Open work spaces, eine Bibliothek, Bereiche für Workshops, Atelier- und Ausstellungsflächen, eine Grätzl - Küche, Kinderbetreuung, Seminarräume, Hörsäle, extern anmietbare Büroflächen, Wohnstudio für artists in residence ... all das ist Programm.Ziel ist die Ausformulierung einer architektonischen Landschaft, in der Bildung, Kultur und sozialer Austausch von allen StadtakteurInnen gleichermaßen gelebt werden kann.

The rich Viennese landscape of intra-city higher educational institutions constitute an ideal foundation for the idea of city as campus. Attempts for economical, cultural and social synergies are the basis for a new architectural approach inside the campus context, which will be the object of the following diploma thesis. The introduction provides an overview of the campus subject in general before concentrating on the institutes of higher education in Vienna. This theoretical approach will help to develop the design for a building at the Wiener Karlsplatz, not just educational, but for the public as a whole. The design will function as a connecting string between existing educational, cultural structures and urban space, both in program and structure. It will house areas that will offer well needed spaces for synergetic communication between the public, cultural institutions, students and educational institutions; Open work areas, a library, workshop and atelier spaces, room for exhibitions, a community kitchen, room for child care, private work and housing spaces for short term stays ... all this will be the program of a building, that should be considered as a place for everyone.
