Anders Räume schaffen: Eine Theoretisierung künstlerisch-aktivistischer Zugänge zu prozessorientierter Raumproduktion

Abstract

Die vorliegende Arbeit untersucht Problemstellungen im Kontext kritischen Architekturschaffens anhand des Fallbeispiels eines umstrittenen, autonomen, feministischen Raumes in Wien. In Abstimmung mit der kollektiven Struktur des Frauenzentrums (FZ) werden alternative Planungen, Darstellungen, Aktivismen und Forderungen entwickelt, die auf einem Verständnis von Architektur als Prozess beruhen.Als interne Kernthemen stellen sich feministische Erinnerungsarbeit und Denkmalschutz im Kontext der Differenzen zwischen den Wellen der feministischen Bewegung und eine feministische Architekturpraxis als prozessorientierte Methode mit Fokus auf deren (Re-) Produktionsbedingungen heraus. Die Gliederung in drei Teile behandelt zuerst den untersuchten Ort und dessen Räume und Praxen. Dabei wird auf großteils unveröffentlichte Primärquellen des dortigen Archivs zurückgegriffen. Ein Schwerpunkt liegt in dem kritisch-solidarischen Umgang mit der Bewegungsgeschichte und der entsprechenden Entwicklung einer (Architektur-) Darstellung, die den Ansprüchen der autonomen Organisierung gerecht wird. Die Themen,welche sich im ersten Teil in der Auseinandersetzung mit dem konkreten Ort ergeben,werden in Folge theoretisch verhandelt und in den Kontext der Theorien um Recht auf Stadt, Utopisches Denken und Ästhetiktheorie gestellt, um abschließend in der Verhandlungkritischen Architekturschaffens in der Praxis ihre Entsprechung in konkreten Interventionen,Planungen, theoretischer Kritik, künstlerischer Aufarbeitung und Aktivismen zu finden.

This thesis investigates issues related to critical architecture through a case study of acontroversial, autonomous, feminist space in Vienna. In consultation with the collective structure of the Frauenzentrum (Women‘s Center) alternative plannings, representations,activisms, and political demands are developed on a basis of an understanding of architecture as a process.The core themes of feminist memory and heritage in the context of differences between waves of the feminist movement and a feminist architectural practice as a process-oriented method with a focus on its (re)production conditions emerge as internal focal points.The work is divided into three parts. The first part examines the site and its spaces and practices, drawing mainly on unpublished primary sources from the local archive. A particular emphasis is placed on a critically engaged approach to the movement‘s historyand the corresponding development of an (architectural) representation that meets thedemands of the autonomous context. The themes that emerge in the first part throughthe analysis of the specific site are subsequently discussed theoretically and placed in the context of theories of the right to the city, utopian thinking, and aesthetics theory, in order to find their correspondence in concrete interventions, planning, theoretical critique,artistic processing and activism in the final negotiation of critical architecture in practice.
