Abstract:
This chapter discusses wave propagation on different types of transmission lines. It starts with deriving the electromagnetic wave equations and boundary conditions from Maxwell’s equations. The results are then used to determine reflection and transmission properties for piecewise homogeneous media before discussing dielectric waveguides like optical fibers. Next, metallic waveguides and their different propagation modes are analyzed, and commonly used waveguide components are introduced. The chapter closes with gyromagnetic media and their applications.
