Mobile Home Park Living - eine Untersuchung der alternativen Wohnform: Mobile Home

Abstract

Im ersten Kapitel wird für ein Grundverständnis dieser Wohnform die Entstehungs- und Entwicklungsgeschichte der Mobile Home Parks und der darauf befindlichen mobilen Einheiten, den „Mobile Homes“, dargestellt. Im zweiten Kapitel werden die Mobile Home Parks in den USA eingehend erörtert und deren Bedeutung als Wohnform insbesondere für die einkommensschwache Bevölkerung untersucht. Dabei werden die fünf verschiedenen Arten von Mobile Home Parks in den USA dargestellt und aus architektonischer Sicht analysiert. Um die Vielfalt der modernen Mobile Home Parks zu verstehen, werden anschließend drei konkrete Mobile Home Parks in den USA vorgestellt und untersucht. Zur Überprüfung der Behauptung, dass Mobile Home Park Living in den USA eine kostengünstige Alternative zum konventionellen Einfamilienhaus darstellt, wird eineWohnkostengegenüberstellung anhand konkreter Beispiele durchgeführt. Anschließend werden die medial am häufigsten thematisierten negativen Kritikpunkte am Mobile Home (Park) Living erörtert und auf deren Berechtigung hin überprüft. Im dritten Kapitel werden sodann die mobilen Einheiten, die „Mobile Homes“, untersucht. Dabei werden konkrete Beispiele von Mobile Homes der Typen Single-Wide, Double-Wide und Triple-Wide vorgestellt. Im Anschluss wird die Konstruktion der heutigen Mobile Homes analysiert und auf deren Besonderheiten eingegangen. Im vierten Kapitel wird untersucht, ob die Wohnform „Mobile Home Park Living“, wie sie in den USA etabliert ist, auch oder in ähnlicher Form in Österreich gelebt wird.

To establish a basic understanding of the topic, the first chapter outlines the history and development of Mobile Home Parks and Mobile Homes, the mobile residential units that occupy them. The second chapter addresses Mobile Home Parks in the United States in greater detail and their importance as an alternative form of housing, especially for low-income people. In that chapter, five different types of Mobile Home Parks that have been established in the United States are described and analyzed from a architectural perspective. To understand the variety of modern Mobile Home Parks, three specific Mobile Home Parks in the United States are presented and examined. In order to verify or refute the hypothesis that states that Mobile Home Park Living is a more cost-effective alternative to conventinal housing in the United States, this chapter contains a breakdown and comparison of living costs for both housing forms, using concrete examples. Following this comparison, the negative points of criticism most frequently addressed in the media regarding Mobile Home (Park) Living are discussed and their justifications analyzed. The third chapter examines the mobile housing units or “Mobile Homes”. Examples of Mobile Homes are presented, specifically of the types Single-Wide, Double-Wide and Triple-Wide. Then, the construction of modern-day Mobile Homes is analyzed, and their peculiarities are discussed. The fourth chapter addresses the question whether “Mobile Home Park Living” has been established as a type of housing in Austria the same way it has in the United States or differently.
