Raimer, M. (2023).

The Covid 19 pandemic highlighted the importance of having the ability to telerehabilate. Regardless of why on-site therapy cannot be provided, this has negative consequences for patients as they are left on their own and progress cannot be monitored. In order to support the rehabilitation in the best possible way without the presence of the patient, a prototypical telerehabilitation platform for ankle injuries was developed. Serious games controlled by a smartphone can be played on this platform. It was important to find out which requirements the physiotherapists have to meet in order to support the therapy remotely. It is also important to know which data is relevant to the recording and how interoperability between platform and serious games can be ensured. In order to be able to answer these questions, a prototype implementation of the platform was carried out.The requirements engineering started with a literature research and subsequent expert interviews with physiotherapists in order to collect the requirements. This was followed by the implementation of the prototype in several iterations. The first iteration was used to implement the initial version of the prototype. In iterations two and three, a serious game was developed and feedback from the physical therapists was gathered and implemented. With the fourth and last iteration, the evaluation with several test persons and physiotherapists took place. With the help of the prototype and the feedback from the therapists, findings were collected to answer the research questions. It turned out that the recording of the range of motion is indispensable and represents the most important component for the therapists. It is also important to receive feedback from the patients after the exercises and to be able to adjust the difficulty and settings of the game remotely. Likewise, a framework could be developed and tested, which ensures the interoperability between the serious games and the platform.
