dc.description.abstract
This theoretical diploma thesis deals with the life of the Austrian Architect Artur Perotti (1920-1992) and selected works he established in Linz during the post-war-period. His architecture had a lasting impact on the cityscape of Linz. However, little is documented about him and his work.An extensive chapter addresses the personal life of Artur Perotti. In his child-hood he himself was confronted with the grievances of social housing. This experience had a lasting effect on his attitude and his way of planning and building. People ́s welfare and quality of life were always a priority for him. Since 1953, the office partnership “Perotti+Greifeneder und Partner” built significant buildings. For better understanding of post-war architecture and the circumstances of this period, the history of Linz, from industrialization to the post-war period, is examined. The following buildings are presented: the Parkhotel, the AEG building or Americahouse, the Eder-high-rise, the Froschberg-high-rise, the residental building Am Damm and the Poschachergründe. They are analyzed in terms of building history, described in detail and presented with historical and con-temporary building plans and image material. The conclusion of each indi-vidual analysis is an examination of the current utility value. This value is ascertained through a schematized questionnaire.
