X-ray fluorescence analysis is a powerful tool for the investigation of materials in the context of cultural heritage, biology and materials science. By using X-ray focusing optics in a confocal setup a three-dimensional analysis of the elemental distribution in the sample material can be done. While the determination of the distribution of the elements is relatively straightforward, a quantitative interpretation of the measurement results is more difficult.
