Abstract:
Die bauliche Umsetzung des Strafvollzugs hat sich im letzten Jahrhundert erheblich verändert. Beeinflusst durch die Entwicklung des Vollzugssystems in den skandinavischen Ländern sind Resozialisierungsmaßnahmen in den Vordergrund gerückt. Der Freiheitsentzug an sich wird hier als Strafe verstanden, die Gestaltung des Strafvollzugsalltags soll jedoch keine zusätzliche Bestrafung darstellen. Es wird versucht, das Leben außerhalb der Mauern so gut wie möglich widerspiegeln, um die Insassinnen auf ein Leben nach der Haft gut vorzubereiten. Ziel ist es, die Qualität des Strafvollzugs zu verbessern, wobei im Besonderen auch auf Nachhaltigkeit gesetzt wird, um die Rückfallquote zu senken.Die vorliegende Arbeit untersucht die baulichen Aspekte angestrebter Resozialisierungsmaßnahmen und wie diese durch die architektonische Struktur und Materialisierung des Ortes einer Haftanstalt unterstützt werden können. Die Besonderheit der Haftanstalt LUNA für Frauen liegt darin, eine architektonische Ausformulierung für einen geschlechterspezifischen Vollzug mit Augenmerk auf Reintegration, wie auch sozialtherapeutische Maßnahmen zu setzen. Das Ergebnis der Untersuchung mündet in einen Entwurf der unterschiedliche Baukörper umfasst, die in ihrer Gesamtheit gemäß des österreichischen Strafvollzugsgesetzes (StGV) sowohl den Bedarf an Sicherheit und Ordnung wie den angestrebten Prozess der Reintegration im Strafvollzug beispielhaft darlegen. LUNA erprobt und veranschaulicht inwieweit entsprechend gestaltete bauliche Strukturen den Rehabilitationsprozess in Justizanstalten fördern bzw. erst ermöglichen.

The architectural implementation of the correctional facility has changed considerably in the last century. Influenced by the development of the correctional system in Scandinavian countries, resocialization measures have come to the fore. Here, the deprivation of liberty in itself is understood as a punishment, but the organization of everyday life in the penal system is not intended to be an additional punishment. An attempt is made to reflect life outside the walls in order to prepare the inmates well for life after incarceration. The aim here is to improve the quality of the built correctional service, with a particular focus on sustainability in order to reduce the reoffending rate.This thesis examines the structural aspects of the intended resocialization measures and how they can be supported by the architectural design and the materialization of the prison environment. A distinctive feature of the LUNA prison design for women is the architectural formulation for a gender-specific correctional facility with an emphasis on reintegration as well as socio-therapeutic measures. The result of the analysis leads to a design that includes different building tyopologies, which in their entirety exemplify both the need for security and order as well as the intended process of resocialization in the correctional system in accordance to the Austrian Penal System Act (StGV). LUNA tests and illustrates the extent to which appropriately designed building structures promote or enable the rehabilitation process within prisons.
