Die alte Tischlerei. Möglichkeitsräume am Land

Abstract

Die folgende Arbeit beleuchtet ein Projekt, das in der ländlich geprägten Gemeinde Michaelnbach in Oberösterreich gestartet wurde und nach und nach umgesetzt wird. Im Mittelpunkt des Projektes stand die Umnutzung einer leerstehenden Tischlerei aus den 70er Jahren zu einem Ort des gemeinwohlorientierten Wirtschaftens.Ortskerne verloren in den letzten Jahren durch die Zersiedelung, den motorisierten Individualverkehr, durch den Verlust von Treffpunkten und die Abwanderung von Frequenzbringern wie Nahversorger, öffentliche Funktionen oder Handel immer mehr an Bedeutung. Bei den umliegenden Einfamilienhaus-Siedlungen und die Fachmarktzentren am Rand wurden oft keine öffentlichen Räume, die eine Aneignung erfordern, mitgedacht.Diese Arbeit fordert eine neue Bewertung des öffentlichen Raumes am Land. Der öffentliche Raum im ländlichen Umfeld ist weniger eine Aufenthaltsfläche zur Entspannung, sondern überspitzt dargestellt meist ein autodominierter Platz mit hoher sozialer Kontrolle. Öffentlicher Raum kann aber auch anders wahrgenommen werden – es ist ein Ort, der von allen gestaltet werden kann, es ist ein kollektiver Ort!Um herauszufinden welche Nutzungen das Gebäude noch aufnehmen kann und wie Menschen sich daran beteiligen können, wurde ein Reallabor (Dorf.labor) durchgeführt. Diese Methode verbindet Theorie und Praxis und gibt einen tieferen Einblick in die sozialen Prozesse eines Dorfes.In der Reflexion des Reallabors wird auf die praktischen Herausforderungen und Erfolge eingegangen und festgestellt, dass es notwendig ist, die Bedeutungen der architektonischen Kollektivität herauszuarbeiten. Dazu wurde ein Glossar erstellt, das Signale, Organisationsformen und Raumnutzungen auflistet. Der Katalog zeigt die Bandbreite von Kollektivität auf und bildet die Basis für den Entwurf.Im Entwurf wird der öffentliche Raum als kollektiver Raum betrachtet, und die Gestaltung der kollektiven Zone in Michaelnbach. Im Fokus des Entwurfs steht die alte Tischlerei.Eine Erkenntnis dieser Diplomarbeit ist, dass der gesamte soziale Prozess hinter der Architektur von entscheidender Bedeutung ist. Durch das Reallabor in Michaelnbach wurde deutlich, dass die Verbindung von Theorie und Praxis sowie die Belebung von Ortskernen nur durch gemeinschaftliches Handeln gelingt.Die Resultate aus dem Reallabor und das Prozess-Design können als Grundlage für zukünftige Projekte in der Region dienen und verdeutlichen, dass die Gestaltung kollektiver Räume ein fortwährender, dynamischer Prozess ist, der nicht nur auf baulichen Aspekten basiert, sondern tief in den sozialen Kontext eingebettet ist.

The following thesis describes a project that was started in the rural community of Michaelnbach in Upper Austria. The focus of the project was the transformation of a former carpentry from the 1970s into a community center.Rural villages have become less and less important in recent years. On the one hand due to urban sprawl, on the other hand due to the loss of meeting places and the loss of local suppliers, public institutions and retailers.Villages lost their attractiveness due to the surrounding housing developments, motorized private transportation, and shopping centers on the outskirts. Meeting places, meeting points or third places: Spaces that afford appropriation were not planned in the process. This thesis calls for a new evaluation of public space in the countryside. Public spaces in rural areas are less a recreational space and more a car-dominated space with a high level of social control. However, public spaces can also be perceived differently - they are places that can be shaped by everyone, there are collective places!A real lab (Dorf.labor) was carried out to find out which uses the building can still accommodate and how people can participate. This method combines theory and practice and provides a deeper insight into the social processes of a village.Reflecting on the real-world laboratory, the practical challenges and successes are discussed, and it is determined that it is necessary to work out the meanings of architectural collectivity. A glossary of signals, forms of organization and uses of space was created for this reason. The catalog shows the range of collectivity and forms the basis for the architectural design.The architectural design considers the public space as a collective space and the design of the collective zone in Michaelnbach, especially the former carpentry, is the focus of the design.A result of this thesis is that the whole social process behind the architecture is of crucial importance. The real lab in Michaelnbach made it clear that the combination of theory and practice and the revitalization of town centers can only succeed through collective action.The results of the Real-World Labor can serve as a basis for future projects in the region and illustrate that the design of collective spaces is a dynamic process that is not only based on structural aspects, but is also deeply integrated into the social context.
