Stadtbild(-ung): Offene Lernformate für urbane Problemstellungen

Abstract

Forschungsgegenstand dieser Diplomarbeit ist die Auseinandersetzung mit offenen Lernformaten und Lernprozessen, die sich mit aktuellen urbanen Problemstellungen befassen. Wachsende gesellschaftliche, ökologische sowie ökonomische Herausforderungen bedürfen neuer Instrumente der Teilhabe. Eine partizipative Bau- und Planungskultur nimmt im urbanen Kontext eine tragende Rolle für den Umgang mit komplexen Aufgaben ein. Es werden zunehmend inter- und transdisziplinäre Herangehensweisen gewählt, um die Gesellschaft bei transformativen Prozessen der gebauten Umwelt teilhaben zu lassen. Kinder und Jugendliche sind in diesem Kontext zentrale Akteur:innen, da viele Planungsentscheidungen die Chancen und Räume für Ihre Zukunft vorgeben. Durch frühzeitige, kreative Lern-/Vermittlungsformate kann das Erfahrungsspektrum in Bezug auf die (gebaute) Umwelt der Kinder geschärft werden. Als Fallbeispiel in dieser Arbeit dient das Lernformat „Cultural Collisions Wien“, welches den Anspruch hat, Kindern im Alter von 12-14 Jahren das Thema Klimawandel in anregender und kreativer Weise zu vermitteln. Dieses Projekt bietet mit seiner Vielfalt an Maßnahmen und Akteur:innen aus unterschiedlichen Institutionen verschiedene Betrachtungsebenen, wodurch neben einem Aufzeigen der Projektstruktur interessant ist, Chancen, Qualitätskriterien und Herausforderungen für Lernprozesse im Feld der Architektur und Raumplanung zu untersuchen und daraus abzuleiten, wie sich zukünftig Lernformate gestalten lassen.In der vorliegenden Arbeit wird anhand von Literaturrecherche dargelegt, welche lerntheoretischen Ansätze es gibt, welche Aspekte für die Altersgruppe 12- bis 14- jähriger aus entwicklungspsychologischer Sicht relevant sind und was der Anspruch von Baukultur- und Wissenschaftsvermittlung ist. Für die Analyse des Fallbeispiels stützt sich die Arbeit auf einen explorativen Forschungsansatz in Form einer Teilnehmender Beobachtung, qualitativer Kurzinterviews, einem qualitativen Fragebogen, informellen Gesprächen, sowie die Teilnahme an einem Symposium zur baukulturellen Bildung. Drei Betrachtungsebenen, die sich aus der Theorie und Empirie bilden, helfen bei einer Strukturierung der erhobenen Daten. Erkenntnisse haben gezeigt, dass das Fallbeispiel Cultural Collisions aufgrund der Kombination vieler Maßnahmen Lernprozesse für das Thema auf vielen Ebenen ermöglicht. Des Weiteren bietet das Format durch die offene Gestaltung eine Lernumgebung, die auf die individuellen Bedürfnisse der Kinder und Jugendlichen eingehen kann. Das Format ist außerdem aufgrund der dynamischen Prozesse ein gutes Praxistraining für Studierende der Architektur und Raumplanung. Als Handlungsfelder werden fünf Dimensionen identifiziert, die für die Gestaltung zukünftiger Lernformate relevant sind und zu denen es Handlungsbedarf gibt: die Politische Dimension, die Institutionelle Dimension, die Raumplanerische Dimension, die Individuelle Dimension und die Gemeinwohlorientierte Dimension. Diese Dimensionen sollen eine Orientierung für gleichartige Lernformate bieten, sind jedoch aufgrund der Komplexität des Themas keinesfalls allumfassend, sondern dienen als Denkanstoß und Basis für eine tiefergehende Auseinandersetzung.

The subject of this diploma thesis is the examination of open learning formats and learning processes that deal with current urban problems. The growing social, ecological and economic challenges require new instruments of participation. A participatory building and planning culture plays a key role in dealing with complex tasks in an urban context. Interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary approaches are increasingly being chosen in order to involve society in transformative processes in the built environment. Children and young people are key players in this context, as many planning decisions determine the opportunities and spaces for their future. Creative learning/mediation formats at an early stage can sharpen children‘s range of experience in relation to the (built) environment. The learning format „Cultural Collisions Vienna“ serves as a case study in this diploma thesis, which aims to teach children aged 12-14 about climate change in a stimulating and creative way. With its variety of measures and actors from different institutions, this project offers different levels of observation, which makes it interesting to analyse opportunities, quality criteria and challenges for learning processes in the field of architecture and spatial planning in addition to demonstrating the project structure and to derive from this how learning formats can be designed in the future.Based on a literature review, this paper presents which learning theory approaches exist, which developmental psychology aspects are relevant for the 12-14 age group and what are the requirements of buildung culture and science education. To analyse the case study, the work is based on an explorative research approach in the form of participant observation, qualitative short interviews, a qualitative questionnaire, informal discussions and participation in a symposium on buildung culture education. Three levels of observation, which are formed from theory and empiricism, help to structure the collected data. Diverse findings have shown that the Cultural Collisions case study produces something special due to the combination of many measures and enables learning processes for the topic on many levels. Furthermore, the open design of the format provides a learning environment that can respond to the individual needs of the children and young people. Due to the dynamic processes, the format is good practical training for students of architecture and spatial planning. Five dimensions were identified as fields of action that are relevant for the design of future learning formats and for which there is a need for action: Political dimension, institutional dimension, spatial planning dimension, individual dimension and public welfare-orientated dimension. These dimensions are intended to provide orientation for similar learning formats but are by no means universal due to the complexity of the topic, but rather serve as food for thought and a basis for a more in-depth discussion.
