disco park: Meet and dance in the postpandemic Mexico City

Abstract

Mexiko-Stadt ist die viertgrößte (in Bezug auf die Einwohnerzahl) städtische Agglomeration der Welt. Neben der Größe zeichnet sich die Stadt durch ihre kulturelle Komplexität und den hohen Kontrast zwischen den sozialen Schichten aus. Mexikaner sind berühmt für ihre Gastfreundschaft und Geselligkeit. Daher stelle ich die Frage: Wie wird sich die Pandemie auf ihr tägliches Leben auswirken? Werden einige Verhaltensweisen (wie Distanzierung) länger in der Gesellschaft bleiben?Wenn ich mir eine so komplexe Agglomeration wie Mexiko-Stadt genauer anschaue, möchte ich, dass das Ergebnis meiner Beobachtungen ein Projekt ist, das die Einwohner der Stadt wieder zusammenführt. Ein Projekt, bei dem sich Menschen treffen, kennenlernen und feiern können. Gleichzeitig wird es eine Struktur sein, die zwei wichtige kulturelle Stätten verbindet (Soumaya Museum und Conservatorio Nacional de Música). Der derzeit vom Straßenverkehr dominierte Teil der Stadt wird es Fußgängern ermöglichen, sich frei über die Fußgängerbrücke zu bewegen. Ein Teil des Erdgeschosses wird als Begegnungs-, Feier- und Auftrittsort genutzt.

Mexico City is the fourth largest (in terms of the number of inhabitants) urban agglomeration in the world. In addition to its scale, the city is characterized by its cultural complexity and high contrast between social strata. Mexicans are famous for their hospitality and sociability. Therefore, I ask the question: how will the pandemic affect their daily lives? Will some behaviors (such as physical and social distancing) stay in society for longer?Taking a closer look at such a complex agglomeration as Mexico City, I would like the result of my observations to be a project that will reunite the city‘s inhabitants. A project where people will be able to meet, get to know each other and celebrate. At the same time, it will be a structure that will connect two important cultural sites (Soumaya Museum and Conservatorio Nacional de Música). The part of the city, which is currently dominated by road traffic, will allow pedestrians to move freely through the footbridge. Part of the ground floor will be used as a meeting, celebration and preformance place. My diploma project is a place created by people, for people.
