In the course of the hospital concept of Vienna the care center Sophienspital in the 7th district of Vienna was closed in october 2017. Because of the resettlement of the stations to the new built Ingrid-Leodolter-Haus in the 15th district a big site within the city is open for a new use. In 2013 first considerations about the reuse of the former hospital grounds were made by the city of Vienna. In June 2018 the district respresentatives presented the results for the development and conversion of the site. This work deals with the conditions of the site, as well as the surroundings and tries to develop a new design for the use of the grounds based on this parameters. Apart from the listed Kenyon-Pavillon all of the existing buildings will be removed to ensure a high-quality design. Most of the site contains residential use. At the ground floor are shops, ateliers, a cafe and a base for assisted living situated. The consisting Kenyon-Pavillon is repurposed as a two-storey kindergarten with an attached open space. The design results from the desire to produce a col-laborative and communicative neighbourhood. Therefore overall community rooms, differing open spaces and flexible apartments are emphasized.
