Abstract:
Jahrhunderts.

This diploma thesis approaches a newly constructed building for the main fire station on the site of the existing fire department Favoriten in the 10th municipal district of Vienna. The focus is on the development of a new design on the current location considering real circumstances and existing building regulations. The firehouse has its origin in the beginning of the 20th century and went through changes after the destructions of the second world war. After many years of usage, the existing building is non-conforming to the current technical and physical structure requirements. A new design shall enable an improvement in working conditions and organization in a modern architectural context. The writing is divided in two main parts. The first one deals with the historical development of the fire service in Vienna and the fire safety guidelines, with the focus on decisive events which led to the current state of affairs. The process of design is discussed in the second part. The analysis of special requirements of the fire service regarding building and organization needs is crucial and enables the development of a convincing, modern and future-oriented fire station.
