Abstract:
Das Hamam entstand aus der Notwendigkeit der rituellen Reinheit für die Ausübung der islamischen Religion. Fließend Wasser war ein Luxusgut und die einzige Möglichkeit sich vor dem Gebet zu reinigen. Dadurch wurde das Hamam zu einem wichtigen Bestandteil des Lebens eines Muslimen und somit der Stadt. Der Typus des islamischen Bades hat sich über die Jahre kaum geändert, da sich auch der Sinn des Bades - die rituelle Reinheit, nicht geändert hat.Ab dem 19. Jahrhundert gab es auch in Wien, einen für alle Bürger zugänglichen Ort zur Reinigung mit fließend Warmwasser - die Tröpferlbäder. Die Arbeit "Das Dampfbad - Ein Hamam in Wien" befasst sich mit der Badekultur des Islams in einer Gesellschaft und einem Ort, in der zwar Wasser kein Luxusgut mehr ist, jedoch Zeit und Gesundheit.

The hamam arose from the need for ritual purity for the practice of the Islamic religion. Running water was a luxury item and the only way to cleanse oneself before prayer. As a result, the hamam became an important part of a Muslim's life and thus of the city. The type of Islamic bath has hardly changed over the years, as the purpose of the bath - ritual purity, has not changed either.From the 19th century there was also in Vienna, a place for purification with running hot water accessible to all citizens - the drip baths.The work "The Steam Bath - A hamam in Vienna" deals with the bathing culture of Islam in a society and place where water is no longer a luxury good, but time and health are.
