In Wien mangelt es dem Handballsport an der notwendigen Infrastruktur um den Sport professionell zu betreiben und internationalen Standards gerecht zu werden. Der Pierre-de-Coubertin Platz im Wiener Prater, benannt nach dem Initiator der modernen Olympischen Spiele, wird derzeit als Parkplatz genutzt und wird dem Leben seines Namensgebers in keinster Weise gerecht. Spätestens seit der Verlängerung der U-Bahnlinie 2, ist ein Parkplatz in dieser Größenordnung nicht mehr notwendig. Daher habe ich diesen Ort als Bauplatz für eine Handballhalle mit Raum für mindestens 3000 Zuschauern gewählt. Durch variable Tribünensysteme soll sie sich allerdings auch anderen Nutzungsszenarien anpassen können. Die neue Halle soll ein Bindeglied zwischen dem Ernst-Happel-Stadion und dem Wiener Prater bilden und die Lücke innerhalb des vielfältigen Sportangebots dieses Areals und der Stadt Wien füllen.

In Vienna, the sport of handball lacks the necessary infrastructure to be operated professionally and to meet international standards. The Pierre-de-Coubertin Platz in the Vienna Prater, named after the initiator of the modern Olympic Games, is currently used as a parking lot and does not honor the legacy of its namesake in any way. Since the extension of the subway line U2, a parking lot of this magnitude is no longer necessary. Therefore, I have chosen this location as the site for a handball arena with seating for at least 3000 spectators. In addition, through a variable grandstand system, it should also be able to adapt to other usage scenarios. The new arena is intended to bridge the gap between the Ernst-Happel-Stadion and the Vienna Prater, filling the void within the diverse sports offerings of this area and the city of Vienna.
