Abstract

The Current State of Artificial Intelligence in Engineering Management and its potential Future Applications This master's thesis examines the topic and evolving nature of artificial intelligence (AI) in the field of technical management and its impact on the workplace. In the first chapters, a basic understanding of artificial intelligence is created. To this end, various definitions and the complexity of its conceptualization are discussed, and a relationship to human intelligence is established. In particular, the area of technical management is discussed and its role in managing technical change and the requirements of Industry 4.0, in which AI plays a central role, is emphasized. A significant part of the work deals with the practical implementation of artificial intelligence in the workplace. In particular, the potential of AI to improve human work instead of replacing it is emphasized. In the course of this, the complexity of human-AI collaboration is highlighted and the Computer Are Social Actors (CASA) paradigm is touched upon. Furthermore, the necessity of a gradual and well-considered integration of AI in companies is highlighted. Furthermore, this paper examines the impact of AI on the workforce. In particular, the changes in work roles and the redefinition of work itself are discussed. It looks at the psychological impact on workers who have to deal with the transformation of their work identity and the need to upskill in the face of changing work requirements. In addition, a critical discussion is held on the ethical and moral dimensions of AI use, addressing issues such as data protection, the intransparency of algorithms and potential biases. This work argues for a comprehensive ethical framework for the development and use of artificial intelligence, based on the guidelines of authoritative bodies such as the European Commission's High-Level Expert Group on AI. In its conclusion, this work offers a comprehensive perspective on the role of artificial intelligence in modern engineering management. It emphasizes the importance of ethical considerations and advocates human-centric and slow but deliberate integration. It emphasizes the need for companies and individuals to develop adaptive strategies in order to succeed in an increasingly AI-dominated work environment and not lose touch with the competition. Therefore this detailed research provides valuable insights into the diverse impact of AI in the modern workplace and highlights the necessary balance between technological advancement and human values.
