Abstract:

A waste incineration plant is a place of high technical complexity, resulting in high effort for operation, maintenance, and documentation. The latter is inevitably for the personal who is responsible for running and optimising the plant. A three-dimensional, digital capture of the plant is an innovative possibility for supporting those jobs and people. Therefore, an analysis of relevant literature has been carried out to explain the basics of the various existing 3D scan technologies and identifying one optimally suited for the use case in question. WMLS systems (wearable mobile laserscanner) figured out to be especially suited for that use case. They are very flexible in usage and able to orientate themselves in an area with SLAM algorithm (simultaneous localization and mapping). Low costs and low time effort make these systems especially advantageous. The quality of the scan result can be improved by measures before and during the scan, like ensuring optimal lightning conditions. During the practical execution, a point cloud was created which can be used directly for planning or modifications, as well as a model where one can move around virtually, working similar to Google Street View. This work will be focusing on the latter. The model can be complemented with additional information, starting in a pilot area, whereas components of the plant are tagged following a categorization and directive. So, they can be quickly identified when navigating inside the model or found via the integrated search. This way of a virtualization of a plant with data integration is especially suited for gathering and exchanging information, in particular with and by personnel, respectively, which is not in close proximity to the plant.
