Die Arbeit befasst sich mit dem Entwurf eines Veranstaltungsgebäudes in Mauterndorf, ein Gebirgsort in den Niederen Tauern im Süden des Bundesland Salzburgs auf rund 1122 m Seehöhe. Als Bauplatz wurde ein stark abfallendes Grundstück im Osten Mauterndorfs ausgewählt, um das neue Gebäude mit dem höchstgelegenen Alpenflugplatz Österreichs zu kombinieren. Die natürliche Topografie ermöglicht es das gesamte Gebäude in die Erde einzugraben und nur den Tribünenbau als eigenständiges Gebäudevolumen herausragen zu lassen. Die Situierung des Projektes am Rande des Ortes soll zusätzlich den nötigen Freiraum geben, um das Gebäude als neuen Eyecatcher zu definieren. Ziel dieses Projektes ist es, die veralteten Festsäle zu ersetzen und den kulturellen Treffpunkt des Ortes aus dem engen Gemeindezentrum zu versetzen. Neben einem modernen Veranstaltungssaal zeichnet sich der Bau besonders durch die „schwebende“ Tribünenbrücke aus, die einen Panoramablick auf die Start- und Landebahn des Flugplatzes und auf die einzigartige Berglandschaft gewährleistet.

This project deals with the design of an event building in Mauterndorf, a mountain village in the Lower Tauern in the south of the state of Salzburg at about 1122 m above sea level. A steep sloping plot in the east of Mauterndorf was selected as the construction site to combine the new building with Austria’s highest alpine airfield. The natural topography makes it possible to sink the entire building into the ground and to allow only the grandstand to stand out as an independent building volume. The location of the project on the edge of the village should also provide the necessary space to define the building as a new eye-catcher. The aim of this project is to replace the obsolete ballrooms and to move the cultural meeting place of the village out of the narrow community center. In addition to a modern event hall, the building is characterized by the “floating” grandstand bridge, which provides a panoramic view of the runway of the airfield and the unique mountainous landscape.
