Neue Badearena Krems: Das Treffen von Sport- und Kulturmeile an der Donau

Abstract

Badearena ist der Name für das 1972 erbaute und mittlerweile in die Jahre gekommene Hallenbad in Krems. 2021 wurde ein Wettbewerb zum Neubau der „Badearena Neu“ ausgeschrieben. Ziel des Wettbewerbs ist es, das neue Bad während des laufenden Betriebs des bereits bestehenden Hallen- und Freibades zu errichten. Die Lage des Grundstücks bietet durch seine Nähe zur Donau auch Blickachsen in die Wachau. Vom Stadtkern ist der Baugrund jedoch durch die B35 „Romantikstraße“ stark abgeschnitten. Die topographische Nähe zum Kremser Stadtpark und Stadtzentrum ist durch diese städtebauliche Trennung nicht genutzt. Das „Krems, an der Donau“ im Titel beschreibt daher nicht nur die geografische Lage des Projekts, sondern wird mit dem Leitsatz „Krems an die Donau“ zum Leitmotiv des städtebaulichen Ansatzes. Das neue Gebäude soll nicht nur eine Verbindung der Altstadt zur Donau, sondern mit der zusätzlichen Funktion als Veranstaltungshalle einen Treffpunkt zweier Kulturkonzepte, der Kremser Sportmeile und der Kulturmeile Krems, schaffen. Die Hypothese ist, dass die Badearena eine kulturelle Rolle im Gefüge der Stadt Krems einnehmen kann. Dafür wird ein Vorschlag formuliert, in dem eine mehrgeschoßige Konstruktion aus Stampflehm, Holz und Stahl es ermöglicht, ein Hallenbad, ein Restaurant, ein Spa sowie eine Veranstaltungshalle für Krems zu beherbergen. Durch die Schichtung dieser Funktionen und einem Brückenschlag über die B3, wird eine Erweiterung des Kremser Stadtzentrums in Richtung der Donau angestrebt.Im Zuge dessen wird in dieser Diplomarbeit einerseits der Ort des Gebäudes einer Untersuchung unterzogen und schließlich innerhalb eines Entwurfsprozesses entsprechende Lösungsmöglichkeit dargestellt.

Badearena is the name for the comunal pool in Krems, which was built in 1972 and is coming of age. In 2021, a competition for the new construction of the >Badearena Neu< was announced. The aim of the competition is to build the new pool during the ongoing operation of the existing indoor and outdoor swimming pool. Due to its proximity to the Danube, the location of the property also offers visual axes to the Wachau. From the city center, however, the building ground is severely cut off by the B3 >Romantikstraße<. The topographical proximity to Krems city park and city center is not used due to this urban separation. The >Krems, on the Danube< in the title therefore not only describes the geographical location of the project, but also becomes the leitmotif of the urban planning approach with the motto >Krems to the Danube<. The new building is not only intended to connect the old town to the Danube, but also to create a meeting place for two cultural concepts, the Krems Sports Mile and the Krems Culture Mile, with its additional function as an event hall. The hypothe-sis is that the Badearena can play a cultural role in the structure of the city of Krems. For this purpose, a proposal is formulated in which a multi-storey con-struction made of rammed earth, wood and steel makes it possible to house an indoor pool, a restaurant, a spa and an event hall for Krems. By layering these functions and building a bridge over the B3, an extension of Krems' city centre towards the Danube is being sought. In the course of this diploma thesis, the location of the building is examined on the one hand and finally the corresponding solution is presented within a design process.
