Abstract: 
In this study, we aim to address the fundamental problem of configuring reconfigurable intelligent surfaces (RISs) for efficient wideband transmission. We investigate whether it is necessary to consider multiple frequency points or only a single frequency point while configuring the RIS. We examine the impact of various conditions, such as the amount of phase variation supported by the RIS, transmission bandwidth, the presence of the line-of-sight (LoS) link between RIS and receiver (RX), and RIS states number. We use the optimal phasor (OP) method to configure the RIS when considering the entire transmission band. Additionally, we consider a linear frequency selectivity RIS model, which is inspired by realistic RIS models.
