LEHMzentrum : ein Ort der Produktion, Bildung und Forschung

Abstract

Die Zeiten ändern sich, und nachdem Lehm über Jahrhunderte hinweg von seinen Gegnern der industriellen Revolution, wie Beton und Stahl, ins Vergessen gedrängt wurde, erleben wir nun eine Renaissance des Lehmbaues. Der Wandel im Umgang mit Lehm und sein Einsatz werden eine entscheidende Rolle dabei spielen, eine langfristig nachhaltige Zukunft zu gestalten. Im Rahmen dieser Diplomarbeit wird in der Gemeinde Sulz im Weinviertel ein Lehmzentrum entworfen, das als Schnittstelle zwischen Produktion, Bildung und Forschung fungiert. Für eine gemeinsame Zukunft ist es von großer Bedeutung, das Bewusstsein für ein ressourcenschonendes Gestalten im nachhaltigen Bausektor zu entwickeln. Um dieses Bewusstsein rechtzeitig zu fördern, ist es wichtig, bereits in der Ausbildung anzusetzen und möglichst viele Fachleute zu integrieren. Das Zentrum wird als Ausbildungsstätte für die Produktion von Lehmbaustoffen dienen und gleichzeitig als Institut fungieren – ein Raum für Experimente und Forschung. Die Idee wird in einem architektonischen Entwurf konkretisiert, der die zukünftige Rolle des Lehms in unserer Baukultur verdeutlicht. Durch innovative Ansätze und interdisziplinäre Zusammenarbeit soll das Lehmzentrum nicht nur als Bildungs- und Produktionsstätte agieren, sondern auch als Inspirationsquelle für nachhaltige Baupraktiken und umweltbewusste Gestaltung.

Times are changing, and after being pushed into obscurity for centuries by its opponents during the Industrial Revolu-tion, such as concrete and steel, we are now witnessing a renaissance of eart-hen construction. The transformation in the use of clay and its applications will play a crucial role in shaping a sustai-nable future. As part of this thesis, an earthen center will be designed in the municipality of Sulz in the Weinviertel region, serving as an interface between production, education, and research. For a shared future, it is essential to de-velop awareness for resource-efficient practices in the sustainable construction sector. To foster this awareness in a ti-mely manner, it is important to introduce it early in education and to integrate as many specialists as possible. The cen-ter will serve as a training facility for the production of earthen building materials while also functioning as an institute—a space for experimentation and research. The concept will be realized through an architectural design that highlights the future role of clay in our building culture. Through innovative approaches and in-terdisciplinary collaboration, the eart-hen center aims not only to act as an educational and production facility but also to serve as a source of inspira-tion for sustainable building practices and environmentally conscious design.
