Musikschulen im Wandel der Zeit : Revitalisierung und Erweiterung der Musikschule Dornbirn

Abstract

Anlass dieser Arbeit ist die Erfassung der wachsenden Schüler*innenzahl in Österreich und der steigende Bedarf an musikalischen Bildungsangeboten für Kinder und Jugendliche. In keinem anderen Land ist das Erlernen eines Instruments so unkompliziert wie hier. Fast jede Gemeindeverfügt über eine öffentliche Musikschule, in welcher musikalischer Nachwuchs ausgebildet wird. Im Gemeinderat Dornbirn wird die Entscheidung einer möglichen Erweiterung der örtlichen Musikschule evaluiert, welche in einer Ausschreibung zu einem Wettbewerb resultieren kann. Demzufolge wird in dieser Diplomarbeit, basierend auf den im Vorfeld genannten Angaben, eine Revitalisierung der schon vorhandenen denkmalgeschützten Musikschule, als auch eine Erweiterung des Geländes um mehrere Gebäude, angestrebt. Basierend auf eingehender Recherche wird ein theoretischer Teil der Arbeit zur historischen Entwicklung von Musikschulen in Österreich und ihrer schrittweisen Institutionalisierung verfasst. Dieser soll Aufschluss zum Musikschulwesen als Bestandteil des österreichischen Schulsystems geben, aber auch als Grundgerüst für den anschließenden Entwurf fungieren. Ziel dieser Arbeit ist es, aufbauend auf einem Raumprogramm für rund 250 weitere Musikschüler*innen, zeitgemäße Unterrichtsräume für musikalisches Schaffen im Bestand zu entwerfen. Zusätzlich soll ein eigenständig nutzbarer und an verschiedene raumakustische Anforderungen angepasster Konzertsaal gestaltet werden.

The starting point of this work is the steadily growing number of pupils in Austria and the associated increasing need for facilities regarding musical education of children and adolescent people. In no other country is learning an instrument as easy as it is here. Almost every community has a public music school in which young musicians are trained.The Dornbirn municipal council is evaluating the decision to expand the local music school in town, which may result in an invitation to tender for an architectural competition. Accordingly, based on the information given in advance, this diploma thesis aims to revitalize the existing music school building as well as to expand the site by several buildings.Based on in-depth research, a theoretical part of the thesis on the historical development of music schools in Austria and their step-by-step institutionalization will be written. This should provide information on the music school system as a component of the Austrian school system, but also act as a basic framework for the subsequent draft of this thesis.The aim of this work is, based on a room program for around 250 other music students, to designcontemporary classrooms for musical creation in the existing building. In addition, a concert hall, thatcan be used independently and is adaptable to various room acoustic requirements, is to be as welldesigned.
