Ronovsky-Bodisch, M., Gerl, B., & Berens, M. (2024, October 1). Innovative Aircraft Heat Exchanger Integration for Hydrogen-Electric Propulsion [Conference Presentation]. Deutscher Luft- und Raumfahrtkongress 2024, Germany.
To transfer heat generated by hydrogen-electric aircrafts to the surrounding, a heat exchanger can be integrated into the propulsion system to dissipate heat and to generate additional thrust using the ramjet effect. This paper presents the influence of various parameters on propulsion performance showing the challenges and possibilities of combining the propulsion system with a heat exchanger. Further, the trade-off between size and efficiency of the propulsion system is discussed.
