Abstract:
The dynamic and spatial unevenly distributed demographic and economic development in Austrian urban regions expresses itself as expected also in significant increasing traffic flows between and inside regions.
The surroundings of the urban areas are increasingly attractive not only as residential locations but also as working and business locations. Particularly clear was this trend between 1991 and 2001 in urban city-regions. This increased the number of outgoing commuters by +28,9 %.
• Problemsituation (macroeconomic efficiency- and fairness reasions), inefficient use of traffic infrastructure and public transport financed by limited public funds and utility lasses (congestion time, environmental impacts, relative devaluation of the location) in case of lack of accessibility (capacity constrains in centers)
In cities and medium-sized towns capacity constrains in the street infrastructur for flowing traffic and shortage of parking space
In small-sized towns (and surroundings of cities and medium-sized towns) inefficient used road infrastructure in the subsidiary network (applies also for supply and disposal infrastructure ), unsuitable settlement structure for the development of public transport and therefor inefficient used offer of public transport
