This study deals with the virtual reconstruction of the synagogue in Bisenz, Czech Republic, which is attributed to the architect Ludwig von Förster. This sacred building was one of the few synagogues in the Czech Republic which survived the night of the pogrom in year 1938. However, it was demolished in the late 1960s when the crumbling synagogue was in need dire of restoration. The aim of this study is to virtually regenerate this sacred, Jewish building and to bring one of this important architect's last buildings to light. The challenge of this study was the lack of sources, which required an extensive research and a great deal of imagination. Based on plans and photos of modest quality, a maximally detailed reconstruction was attempted. For this purpose, similar designs of comparable buildings have been used as models. The first part includes the historical background as well as the social and economic situation of the city Bzenec. The main focus is on the life of the Jewish population. The second part deals with the synagogue and its architect. The biography of the architect, Ludwig von Förster, is followed by an explanation of the building site, the architectural history and the architecture of the synagogue of Bzenec. The final chapter deals with the computer-assisted reconstruction of the synagogue. Initially, some insight into the research is provided, along with the presentation of photo material and plans which were used in this study. In addition, the comparable constructions which served as a model in their creative implementation during the process of reconstruction are presented and the details of the modelling and rendering work are explained. Finally, the virtual reconstruction is presented with both exterior shots and interior images.
